"Endless descriptors for this wine: sweet, carmelized sugar, cotton candy, chalky fruit, earth, and bay leaves. How could I forget about the aromatics: olives, beef broth and fruitcake. Layers and layers of mouthcoating fun. Yet, as joe mentioned, very graceful for such a big wine. My WOTN, the best Syrah I've ever had and one of the top 10 wines I've ever had. 96"

We are a bunch of wine afficiandos who met via the message boards on the Wine Spectators web site over the course of the last two years. The vast majority of us live in the western suburbs of Chicago, but more and more city dwellers are joining our festivities. Feel free to contact us about any upcoming gatherings. Syrah Dinner at Bin 36 on September 5th
A wide variety of different syrah/shiraz based wines were poured for this event. Read all about our visit to BIN 36.

Vertical Tasting at Grossies of September 6th
Grossie hosted this mega tasting consisting of about 10 different mini verticals and just about any other wine that showed up. Photos of the excellent selection and the wiffleball tournament are posted.

Sam's Italian Night on September 16th
Sam's will be holding their annual Italian Grand Tasting Event from 5:30 to 8:30 pm on the 16th. Cost is $35 per person. Last year they had some killer bottles open, including many top notch Tuscan and Piedmont wines (Tignanello, Sassicaia, etc...).

The Wine Cellar German Tasting, September 20th
You never know what funky wines Larry and Craig will be serving at their bi-weekly in-store tastings, but it's always sure to be great. Visit them on the web to see their awesome selection and service.

Binny's on Grand Bordeaux Tasting, October 2nd
Binny's on Grand will hold their Bordeaux tasting on the evening of Thursday, October 2nd, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Over three dozen wines, primarily from the remarkable 2000, and some smart buys from older vintages will be available.
